Well, here it is. The culmination of my project of re-watching and re-reading all Batman: The Animated Series episodes and comics I could find. Time has passed and life has gotten busy, so I haven’t reviewed all my reasoning but I believe this to be the most accurate timeline for this universe’s Batman, Robin, and all our Gotham pals. Many other timelines will clash with this, but well my reasoning is linked by each episode.

As far as deciphering the timeline, every episode of the show and comics that Bruce Timm has declared canon is in black font with the episodic reasoning linked. Birthdates of characters and important dates are also in black, but I have not at this time linked to the articles where I explained my reasoning. Comic stories that have been labeled a “2” (“non-contradictory”) are in blue as they are not confirmed to be canon. There have been spaces left in the timeline for the more problematic “3” stories to occur, but I won’t go to the trouble to find a place for them. However, there is one comic that I decided to add two stories from at the last minute.

699629

The Superman & Batman Magazine was a short-lived attempt at a magazine/comics hybrid that told stories which married the B:TAS canon to early 90s-DC canon. Since later DCAU shows essentially contradicted every single story in this, I at first thought of ignoring it entirely for this timeline. However, the stories “Trial Run” and “A Night At The Opera” don’t contradict canon so they got timeline placements. I think I’ll limit it to that as far as expanding it though.

I feel like if Batman had met the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before Superman, he would have mentioned meeting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before Superman.

Well, that should be about it.  Oh, one more thing: while this period of the DCAU ends with the dissolution of the Dynamic Duo and Dick Grayson resigning as Robin in early June 1995, I have not placed that on the timeline. I haven’t gotten to the episode that covers that, “Old Wounds,” in my DCAU rewatch and I don’t want to skip around so we’ll leave that blank for that now. If I ever do get that far, I hope to create a new post with an updated timeline.

So without further ado, I present….

And so finishes my initial effort at timelining Batman: The Animated Series! It was great revisiting such a seminal show that, even with its weaker episodes, managed to do some of the most layered, tragic, and creative storytelling American television or animation has ever seen.

I’d also like to thank anyone who stuck around and read my posts all through this time. Though I worry they were a little dry, I hope you enjoyed revisiting this classic series and watching me slowly go insane piecing together all the pieces of the puzzle. I don’t know what’s next for the blog, but I do hope to continue the Adventures in the DCAU at some point.

I’ll keep you posted until then and when I do, it’ll be the same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel.
